Underwater Inspection For Offshore Structures: 3D Volumetric Survey and Digital Twinning

Underwater Inspection For Offshore Structures : 3D Volumetric Survey and Digital Twinning

The client required a comprehensive structural integrity underwater inspection to be carried out on its existing fixed offshore structures. The diving contractor was engaged to perform various inspection surveys and produce as-found drawings of the underwater structure. The client was not able to provide as-built drawings of the structure to allow for planning and completion of the inspection and drawings.
Mc Nicolls And Associates Ltd performed data gathering via diver-less subsea sonar scanning and data processing.

The following pertinent information was obtained and used to plan focused dive inspections:

  • Approximate Water Depth
  • Underwater structure geometry
  • Number of risers
  • Number of well conductors
  • Extent of debris
  • Appurtenances
Offshore Structures Emergency Response

Offshore Structures Emergency Response

Trinidad and Tobago experienced a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Tuesday 21st August 2018. As a result of the earthquake event the bridge that spans between two offshore structures suffered gross structural damage. The bridge supported twenty-six (26) pipelines ranging from 2” diameter to 10” diameter and forms an integral part of the location’s operations.

Mc Nicolls And Associates Ltd was engaged on an emergency response basis to assess the structural failure and recommend corrective measures to stabilize the bridge structure, remove the existing pipelines and safely deconstruct the bridge.

Mc Nicolls And Associates Ltd proposed and designed temporary rigging to stabilize and remove the failed structure.

Complex Marine Lift – Removal of Failed Bridge between two Offshore Structures

Mc Nicolls And Associates Ltd designed and engineered the removal of a collapsed bridge and also a Lift Plan for the removal of the collapsed bridge between the two platforms as shown below.

Lift Plan for and Installation of the New Bridge

A new bridge being installed between the two offshore platforms.  The bridge measures 10ft x 15ft x 100ft outfitted with 18 pipelines ranging in size from 2” diameter to 8” diameter with a combined weight of approximately 35T as shown below.

Offshore Underwater Structures Repair

Offshore Underwater Structures Repair

Mc Nicolls And Associates Ltd. developed suitable repair methodologies, installation drawings and project management for the execution of the repair.

The repair involved installation of 2- doubler plates welded to the existing pile by performing underwater welding. MAAL developed the installation aids and installation methodology while providing project management support for the project.

Offshore Structures Verification Of Design

Offshore Structures Verification Of Design

Mc Nicolls And Associates Ltd. provided structural and civil engineering expertise for the Verification of the design, fabrication and installation for a proposed new offshore platform to ensure the design and installation meets the recommended code of practice for fixed offshore structures.
The offshore platform consists of a single/ mono pile conductor substructure, topside well deck, boat landing structure and riser guard, located offshore Southwest Trinidad.
